DEARBORN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — AAA is working to keep impaired drivers off the road in Michigan for the Labor Day weekend.
The Auto Club Group is reactivating it’s ‘Tow to Go’ program for the holiday period, with the goal of providing safe transportation for impaired drivers and their vehicles.
The program is offered in a select number of states with Michigan being one of them.
Here’s how it works. When called, AAA will dispatch a tow truck to transport the would-be impaired driver and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10 mile radius.
And AAA says the service, which is active from 6 p.m. Friday, September 2, to 6 a.m. , Tuesday, September 6, is free to both members and non-members. But they’re asking also to treat this like a backup plan.
To date, AAA Tow to Go has removed more than 25,000 impaired drivers from the road.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 28 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes every day. That’s one person every 52 minutes.
The service can be reached by dialing 1-855-2-TOW-2-GO, or 1-855-286-9246.
