LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former President Donald Trump is endorsing Republican nominee for governor Tudor Dixon’s lieutenant governor pick.
Trump weighed in about 90 minutes after pastor Ralph Rebandt said he wanted to replace former state Representative Shane Hernandez as Dixon’s running mate after he finished dead last in the GOP primary.
The party will choose the running mate this weekend at their convention and Hernandez is expected to be approved. Trump said he checked Hernandez’s background after talking to Dixon and says he is “an outstanding person.”
Second-term Republican Brad Slagh of Zeeland worked with Hernandez during his first two years in the state House, telling Midwest-Holland station WHTC AM-FM:
Earlier in the day Monday, former governor candidate Garret Soldano of Mattawan said he would not run for the Lt. Governor slot Saturday.
