BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Bill Beaty and Jeff VanderWiere are the two finalists to become Battle Creek’s next fire chief.
Beaty is the Deputy Chief for the all-volunteer Divernon, Illinois Fire Protection District. His experience dates back to 1987.
VanderWiere is the Deputy Fire Chief with the Portage Department of Public Safety Fire Division. He served from 1996 until 2020 as the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Assistant Chief.
You can hear from, meet, and ask questions of these candidates during a community event on Wednesday, August 24, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Battle Creek City Commission Chambers at City Hall.
The event will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel and AccessVision channel 17.
Whoever is selected will succeed former Chief Brian Sturdivant who left Battle Creek in April to take the job of fire chief in Lansing.
