BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Education and Community Development Programs Manager for Painted Dog Conservation Wilton Nsimango, will share how bringing the community into conservation efforts helps save African painted dogs.
Nsimango is set to speak to guests at Binder Park Zoo on Saturday, August 20, at 11:30am in the Binda Conservation Discovery Center’s Conservation Hall.
The Zimbabwe native has worked with PDC since 2004, and has several degrees, including an M.S. in Education Management.
His lecture will take place just a few days before African Painted Dog Day, which is Friday, August 26.
African painted dogs are one of the most endangered species in Africa, with fewer than 7,000 remaining in the wild. Binder Park Zoo has had African painted dogs since 1998.
The zoo currently has a pack of four African painted dogs: Nyasi and Sassy, two females who were born at Binder Park Zoo in 2018; and Picasso and Pollock, two males also born in 2018, who arrived here this spring from Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park.
Binder Park Zoo will also welcome back Mary Wykstra, Executive Director of Action for Cheetahs in Kenya.
In her cheetah conservation chat, she’ll share about recent ACK research projects, community outreach, and the K-9 program that all help save cheetahs in Kenya.
Wykstra will speak to guests on Saturday, September 10, at 11:30am in the Binda Conservation Discovery Center’s Conservation Hall.
