KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety police are searching for the suspect who fired shots at them while they were responding to an armed robbery.
Officers first responded to the 2100 block of South Burdick Street around 8 p.m. Saturday, August 13, where a male suspect walked into a business while armed with a rifle.
According to KDPS, the suspect demanded money and began shooting at the clerk and a patron who was inside, and then fled in a vehicle.
Officers located the suspect vehicle minutes later heading south on South Burdick Street when it crashed in the 4300 block of South Burdick Street. The suspect then fled on foot and shot at the patrol car. He also kept shooting at the officer who was giving chase.
Several pieces of evidence were located during an investigation with one item of interest being a black mask. Nearby surveillance footage was also captured of the suspect after he discarded his outer clothing.
One weapon was recovered however, authorities say the suspect is still on the loose.
