VICKSBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Vicksburg Community Schools is hosting a bus safety carnival this Thursday, August 18
The event runs from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Vicksburg Administration Building lawn and parking lot at 301 South Kalamazoo Avenue.
School officials say the event is free and geared towards kids from preschool through elementary school, but the entire community is invited to participate.
Kids are invited to take a ride on a bus around the community and learn about safety rules for riding and boarding school buses ahead of the school year.
“Our goal is to get them excited to head back to school but also make sure that they know what to do if they have to evacuate a school bus and that they understand the danger zone and blind spots around the bus and how to safely get on and off,” said VCS Transportation Director Karen McKinstry.
The fire department will also be teaching fire safety, while the Big Read Machine mobile library will be at the carnival and every child will get a free book. The event also features free games and prizes, as well as hotdogs and water for each child.
