KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The annual Perseid meteor shower is once again making an appearance in West Michigan skies…but another astronomical event may dim the viewing of the meteors.
The fourth and final so-called “super moon” is set for this Thursday night and Friday morning, as the “Super Sturgeon Moon” will make its debut.
The Perseid can be seen beginning Thursday night through Saturday night in the northern sky, with around 60 to 100 meteors streaking through the atmosphere per hour.
However, the “Super Sturgeon Moon” will reduce the ability to see the shower when it appears Thursday night.
Astronomers say that early Saturday morning will be the shower’s peak showing time.
