EAST LANSING, MI — A group of swimmers and divers from Michigan State University are asking a federal judge to reinstate their team while their lawsuit over Title Nine violations is heard.
The group of female swimmers and divers sued the university last year after campus officials announced they were eliminating the men’s and women’s teams. The swimmers alleged the university was violating their rights under Title Nine.
The judge made no decision this week in court and did not indicate when she may make a ruling. A bench trial is scheduled for January.
The college athletes have repeatedly asked the school to reconsider its decision by former athletic driectior Bill Beekman to cut the Olympic sport.
