SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC AM/FM) – A 78-year-old woman from Illinois was rescued by a person by others on the beach after she suffered some sort of medical emergency while swimming in Lake Michigan off Oval Beach in Saugatuck Tuesday afternoon.
Allegan County Central Dispatch was called at 4:44 p.m. for the possible drowning. By the time emergency services arrived, the woman had already been pulled from the water and CPR was being administered.
Witnesses said the woman was on a paddle board or kayak when she suffered the medical emergency and feel into the water. They told the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office that the woman was under water for approximately 1-5 minutes before she was rescued and pulled to the shore.
Emergency medical services on-the-scene were able to get a pulse on the victim. She was then transported by ambulance to a local ospital for further medical treatment. There is no word on her condition.
