LANSING, MI — Despite scattered showers earlier this morning, mid-Michigan’s drought will likely only get worse in the next several weeks. Warmer than normal temperatures are expected from this weekend through at least July 25 and the heat wave will only worsen the drought with little chance of rain expected during that time, according to leterologists with the National Weather Service.
Currently parts of Clinton, Montcalm, Saginaw, and Shiawassee counties are in a moderate drought. Gratiot County is nearing severe drought status. The area of drought in the state is likely to increase, according to NWS officials.
