KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo is about to embark on a first of its kind program to promote diversity and equity in their work force, teaming up with the New York based Moral Courage Project.
Founder Irshad Manji has spoken a couple of times at Western Michigan University on her goal of creating a communications model that helps break down barriers, before trying to eradicate racism.
She says the goal is to keep things from going sideways by promoting positive communications and common ground first.
Manji also says she wants to do it in Kalamazoo because she has found something special “can do” spirit in Kalamazoo that she hasn’t found in her experiences in Los Angeles, New York and Hawaii.
The program she plans to create is called “Diversity Without Division” and it will be introduced in training sessions with Kalamazoo City employees later this year. Kalamazoo would then become the model as she introduces it elsewhere.
