KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man accused in the stabbing deaths of a father and son in Portage has been arrested.
Authorities say 27-year-old Nathaniel Doyle was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail early Wednesday morning, June 29, and arraigned in Kalamazoo 8th District Court on two counts of manslaughter later that afternoon.
Doyle committed the stabbing back on January 10 at Davis Creek Apartments in the 5400 block of Meredith Street south of South Sprinkle Road.
49-year-old Maurice Pearson and 21-year-old Xavier Pearson had gone to the apartment at Davis Creek to confront Doyle over a domestic dispute when a fight erupted and Doyle stabbing the two victims to death according to court records.
He then called 9-1-1 to report the stabbing which he told investigators that it was in self-defense and that the Persons had attacked him.
Doyle was jailed but soon released while the Kalamazoo County prosecutor considered whether charges were appropriate, with manslaughter charges ultimately being issued on May 12.
He was arrested in Arizona and returned to Michigan and is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail. His next court date has been set for Thursday, July 7.
