THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Officials have now identified that kayaker who drowned Saturday in the St. Joseph River in Three Rivers as 26-year-old Donovan Forsythe of Princeton, North Carolina
The Three Rivers Police Department says Forsythe flipped out of his kayak around 5:45 a.m. Saturday, June 25.
A witness reported Forsythe had been bobbing in and out of the water before going under and not resurfacing.
A second person who had been fishing on the river attempted to help the man but was unable due to the churning water.
City police, firefighters, and the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department deputies searched for the body. Forsythe’s body was eventually found by the Michigan State Police Marine Services team just after 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
