GRAND HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Four people were saved from Lake Michigan at Grand Haven State Park on Tuesday afternoon, June 28.
According to the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, officers got the call around 1:30 p.m. to respond to the lakeshore of the park for a water rescue.
Police say that two women from Indiana, ages 20 and 21, were struggling in the water and were “in distress.”
The 20-year-old woman was able to make it back to shore and call for help. That’s when park rangers got into the water and helped the 21-year-old woman reach the shore.
Also, a 13-year-old boy from Indiana was having difficulty beyond the swim buoys. His father attempted to rescue him, but also found himself struggling in the water as well.
Both State Park Rangers and police officers were able to save both the boy and his father.
The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety urges beachgoers to watch the signs and warning flags, and not enter the water during dangerous swim conditions.
