THREE RIVERS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Police Marine Services Team recovered the body of a missing kayaker from the St. Joseph river.
According to the Three Rivers Police Department, the kayaker fell into the river around 6 a.m. Saturday, June 25, and was recovered at 7:14 p.m. that evening.
Authorities say the kayaker was near a dam in the river located near River Drive and Wood Street before falling into the water. A witness told police they saw the kayaker go underwater and not resurface. A fisher attempted to rescue the victim but was unable to find them in the heavy water current.
Police have identified the victim but the name is being withheld until notification of family.
