KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) -The Kalamazoo City Commission has approved their Master Sustainability Plan to make Kalamazoo a greener place.
But there was disagreement over just how committed the city is to the cause.
The city’s own Environmental Concerns Committee, which helped draft the plan, says the final version failed to include the immediate hiring of a cabinet level director, who will have the clout at City Hall to make sure its goals are met.
City Planner Christine Anderson says they plan to add staff, but they first need a “doer” not a director, with that person being someone who can lay the groundwork.
But Environmental Concerns Committee members Ian Magnuson and Sharon Deaver say it’s not enough, saying a Director is critical
Several City Commissioners also said they would like to see a Director hired to push the plan, but they took no action to pursue it.
