KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo may not be able to save the planet by going green on its own, but city commissioners are expected to approve a plan tonight to at least do their part to reverse global warming.
The action plan to reduce the city’s carbon footprint, make businesses and buildings cleaner and greener, increase recycling, promote solar energy and plant more trees.
City of Kalamazoo Sustainability Director Jamie McCarthy says there are 10 community goals, 29 strategies, and 81 actions, with a general goal of net-carbon-neutrality by 2050.
She says the plan is coming out of City Hall but their intent is to get the whole community to participate.
It’s been in the works for two years, delayed by the pandemic. The overall plan can be reviewed on the city’s website.
