LANSING, MI — The southern Lower Peninsula of Michigan will be hot today after thunderstorms swept through the area last night. An excessive heat watch is in place for parts of southeast Michigan with an excessive heat warning for southwest Michigan. Heat indices are expected to be over 100 degrees by tomorrow across mid-Michigan.
Those high heat indexes today and tomorrow means health professionals want everyone to be prepared. They are recommending drinking plenty of water and avoiding alcohol and caffeine, as those can dehydrate a person.
Local health officials also recommend limiting vigorous activity, wearing clothing that provides good air circulation, avoid direct sunlight, and check on neighbors and relatives.
