KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO M/FM) – Thousands in Michigan remain without power this morning, after several waves of thunderstorms and strong winds roared through the state last night and early this morning.
As of early morning, Consumers Energy listed 838 customers in Kalamazoo County without power.
The first thunderstorm moved through early evening Monday, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Warning from the National Weather Service. That’s when most of the power was knocked out, and a few large tree limbs were reported down
Another line of thunderstorms passed through the southern tier of counties shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning.
As of 4:30 a.m., there were 1,146 Consumers Energy customers without power in Calhoun County, 1,006 in Van Buren County, 61 in Allegan County, 1,664 in St. Joseph County, 270 in Barry County, and 4,921 in Jackson County. The utility had staged extra crews around the area ahead of the storm to get a jump on any of the restoration efforts.
At the height of the storms last night, Indiana Michigan Power reported 8,354 of its southwest Michigan customers without power.
