KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — 35-year-old William Jones, who is charged with murdering a young father in his home in Comstock went to trial in Kalamazoo on Monday, June 13.
According to police, Jones shot and killed 22-year-old Christopher Neal after breaking into his home on Proctor Avenue in Comstock on December 1, 2019.
Neal had been watching TV with his wife and 2-year-old daughter when Jones broke into their home armed with two handguns. He then ordered Neal’s wife and daughter to go upstairs while he held Neal hostage at gunpoint in a first-floor bedroom before fatally shooting him.
Jones also fired shots through the bedroom door at police as he tried to escape through the window before being arrested.
A later psychiatric evaluation determined that Jones was found competent to stand trial.
He is currently facing 19 charges, including open murder, home invasion and three charges of attempted murder for shooting and injuring law enforcement officers who responded to the scene.
