BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday on a second degree murder charge in connection with the April shooting death of Patrick Lyoya.
Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker announced the filing of the charge on Thursday.
Schurr has been arrested and lodged in the Calhoun County Jail following a request from Kent County authorities.
Calhoun County Sheriff Steve Hinkley said in a statement, “At the request of the Kent County Sheriff, we are lodging Christopher Schurr in the Calhoun County Jail. This practice is common in situations where individuals previously worked for the jurisdiction where they are charged. The duration of the lodging is unknown, and we have no further comment at this time.”
