KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Efforts to stem gun violence in the Kalamazoo area appear to be just as mired in politics as the debate in Washington.
Monday night Kalamazoo Mayor Dave Anderson called on a city commission committee working on recommendations to start producing. Now local anti-gun violence groups are also putting pressure on elected officials to get off the dime
Several spoke at last evening’s Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners meeting, urging immediate action.
One of them read from the county’s own resolution passed last September, which set a clear course.
It was revealed that joint county/city talks on gun violence apparently fell short with Kalamazoo City Commissioner Esteven Juarez pleading with the county board to come back to the table.
Despite a long discussion, the commission still couldn’t agree on a course of action, and the discussion was cut off for lack of time.
