CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A big haul for Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday, June 4 as they turned up multiple stolen items to include several vehicles, watercraft, and trailers during a larceny investigation.
This happening in the area of the 900 block of K Drive South in Leroy Towhship.
While canvasing the area for suspects, sheriff’s deputies located a suspicious vehicle being driven in the area. The driver pulled onto some property and fled on foot just before deputies attempted to make a traffic stop. The abandoned vehicle, which was pulling a trailer loaded with freshly cut walnut logs, was found to be stolen.
Further investigation revealing multiple other stolen vehicles with displaced and tampered VIN plates, along with stolen watercraft and trailers.
Once a search was obtained and executed for the home on the property, police found multiple items inside believed to be stolen to include illegal firearms.
The Calhoun Area Multi-Jurisdiction Evidence Team was activated to help process the large amount of evidence, and deputies are working now to notify the owners of the known stolen vehicles along with continuing to investigate with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Southwest Commercial Auto Recovery unit. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
