KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo is reminding residents of firework laws for the state and city ordinances.
The period from Memorial Day to independence day on July 4 is the peak of fireworks season and usage. The Law and city ordinances for the remaining holidays for the year where fireworks are popular are listed below:
Juneteenth: The third Saturday in June (June 18) until 11:45 p.m. (This is permitted by City ordinance)
Independence Day: June 29- July 4 until 11:45 p.m. each day (This is required by State Law)
Labor Day: The Saturday & Sunday before Labor Day (September 3-4) until 11:45 pm each day (This is required by State law)
The earliest these fireworks may be used for any of these days is 11 a.m.
The fine for violating the day/time restrictions is a state-mandated $1,000.
The City’s Department of Public Safety Chief or Fire Marshal has the authority to suspend the use of fireworks in the case of dry weather conditions.
