Man who allegedly kidnapped son and allegedly shot son’s mother arraigned

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The man accused of fatally shooting the mother of his 1-year-old son arraigned on murder charges on Monday, May 23.

32-year-old Eric Smith of Kalamazoo was arraigned on one count of open murder, carrying concealed weapons, and felony firearms.

Authorities with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety say Smith allegedly kidnapped his son, Armanii after allegedly shooting and killing 43-year-old Tonya Woody on Friday.

An amber alert was sent out after police couldn’t find the 1-year-old.

Smith turned himself in at KDPS around 3:20 p.m., and the child was then located, unharmed, at the home of a relative.
