Portage City Council votes for water and sewer rate increases totaling around 5.5%

PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A proposal to raise water and sewer rates in Portage was approved unanimously by the City Council Tuesday night.

The first rate increase in four years will cover increased costs experienced by the system and higher rates for sewage treatment already approved by the Kalamazoo City Commission.

Combined water and sewer bills for the average Portage resident will be going up about 5.5%.
