DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Tigers salvaged their series finale with the Yankees after shutting out New York 3-0 in Detroit Thursday afternoon.
Miguel Cabrera entered the game one hit shy of three-thousand in his career. Cabrera went 0-for-3 on the day and was intentionally walked in the eighth inning with runners on second and third.
Austin Meadows hit a two-run double in the eighth after New York walked Cabrera.
Jordan Montgomery was charged with the loss after allowing one run over six innings of work.
Michael Pineda held his former team scoreless over five innings for his first win of the season.
Detroit is two games back of the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians.
Cabrera will have three more home games to collect his 3000th career hit as the Tigers open a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies tonight.
