VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Van Buren County man is facing a possible trial in circuit court after being accused of hitting a woman with a truck and then hiding her body.
Authorities say new evidence emerged in February, which brought charges on Colby Martin, who had been charged with manslaughter with a motor vehicle, concealment of death, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
Detectives said that 64-year-old Melody Rohrer, a grandmother of four and a retired Bronson Methodist Hospital nurse, was hit and killed by Martin while jogging in Hamilton Township near Oak Shores Campground on September 20, 2021.
The suspect is now facing a total of four charges to include homicide, open murder.
Investigators saying that Rohrer had died from blunt force trauma from the impact of Martin’s truck. Martin then disposed of her body in a secluded area in St. Joseph County, and then was taken into custody a day later on September 21, 2021.
Martin’s pre-trial in circuit court is scheduled for May.
