KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The next set of projects designed to reduce the lack of affordable housing in Kalamazoo has been approved by the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners.
The unanimous vote this week approved the construction of scattered single family homes, many in Kalamazoo. The plan will also give the Pinehurst Townhomes in Oshtemo Township a face lift, and fund neighborhood rehabilitation projects in Galesburg and Kalamazoo Township.
Kalamazoo County Housing Director Mary Balkema.
Balkema says they’ll be focusing where the need is the greatest.
She says the $2.6-million approved Tuesday night will leverage an additional $18-million from other sources.
All of Kalamazoo County will see some of the funding come their way as the commission marks the first year of an eight year funding cycle.
