EAST LANSING, MI — It’s one of the toughest tests in golf. And Michigan State senior Valery Plata will experience it this weekend.
The Spartan golfer, who’s from Floridablanca, Colombia, will complete at least one round of golf at Augusta National in Augusta, Ga.
Plata, who was the 2020 Big Ten player of the year and a first-team All-Big Ten selection last season, will compete in two rounds at Champions Retreat Golf Club, which concludes today, and if she finishes in the top 30, will compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur on Saturday.
The field is the strongest and most exclusive in women’s golf, and features mostly the top collegiate golfers from around the country. Augusta National plays host to the Masters next week.
