KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The crackdown on gun violence in Kalamazoo continues.
Tuesday at approximately 6:30 p.m, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) say they conducted a surveillance operation on a vehicle that was occupied by several known area group members in the parking lot of a party store located in the 700 block of North Westnedge Avenue.
When investigators approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee. Police were able to detain the three occupants of the vehicle. They were found to be in possession of a handgun with an extended magazine, a high-capacity assault pistol, and various drugs.
A 21-year-old male, as well as the two other Kalamazoo area residents, aged 18 and 19 years old, were arrested on various weapons, drug violations, driving offenses and outstanding warrants.
KDPS says the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
