KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — There’s an election in just over a month in Kalamazoo County.
It’s one where local school and law enforcement officials have critical funding renewal questions on the ballot, and they may be a little worried.
The County itself is seeking a renewal of their Law Enforcement Millage, which has been around since 1980, and has been renewed every 6 years since.
The Kalamazoo Public Schools district also asking for a bond renewal. Both had been popular with voters before the pandemic and inflation. Also a hot button issue with some, law enforcement funding. The Countywide Millage will also be sharing ballots with bond issues in the Comstock and Gull Lake school districts.
For the first time, Kalamazoo Schools rolled out a professionally produced video to explaining their bond request, which got positive reviews from Trustees.
The County Board spent nearly a month and a half crafting the resolution to endorse their millage with Commissioner Tracy Hall helping to write the final draf.
Expect to hear more about the requests as the May 3 election approaches.
