BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek’s American Legion Post 257 set to launch a first of it’s kind A.L.E.R.T. system in support of firefighters, EMS, and police working in Calhoun County.
A.L.E.R.T., which stands for American Legion Emergency Response Team, is made up of 16 people to include former fire chiefs and firefighters.
The group will make themselves present wherever first responders happen to be working in the County with two trailers equipped to serve as mobile shelters for those working long, on-scene emergencies such as fires, missing person searches, and natural disasters.
Trailers will also be stocked with hot coffee, snacks, water, along with other items needed to aid in the on-scene recovery and sustainment of first responders, said A.L.E.R.T. Commander, Del Kilbourne. He went onto say that every team member will be connected to local dispatch operators, who will inform the team when services are needed, twenty-four-seven.
The A.L.E.R.T. program will launch in April. To learn more or to donate to the program, log onto http://www.alert257.org.
