KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo City Attorney Clyde Robinson says he plans to retire this summer, after 42 years in municipal law.
Robinson grew up in Kalamazoo, graduated from Kalamazoo Central University and Western Michigan University, but spent his early career in Battle Creek City Hall, returning to work for Kalamazoo City Government 14 years ago.
Robinson says he plans to spend more time with his family.
Commissioner Don Cooney, who was on the board when Robinson was hired, says he thinks of four words when he thinks of Clyde: ”fairness, respect, kindness and expertise,” and thinks Robinson is considered one of the state’s top experts on municipal law.
Robinson says his last day will be July 1, 2022, but says he will stay around longer if his replacement has not come on board by then.
The early notice gives City Commissioners time to find a new legal counsel. The City Attorney is one of only four city employees hired directly by the Commission.
