KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Because jurors couldn’t come up with a unanimous verdict, a mistrial was declared Monday in the double murder trial for the 18-year-old accused of killing two people in Kalamazoo Township.
The jury in the case of Tikario Taylor-McMillon had been deliberating for three days after hearing testimony for three additional days.
Taylor-McMillon is accused of breaking into an apartment and killing Katoya McPherson and Floyd Brashers Jr. in December 2020.
Judge Paul Bridenstine asked the jury on Monday if a unanimous verdict could be reached if given more time, and the jury foreman said no.
A settlement conference is scheduled for April 20, where prosecutors will have the chance to give Taylor-McMillon one more deal to try to resolve the case. If the defense does not accept a deal, a new murder trial will begin April 25, 2022.
