MENDON, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — St. Joseph County police say that speed appears to be a likely factor in a single-vehicle crash that injured two people over the weekend.
It happened around 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, on Silver Street, south of Michigan Avenue in Park Township.
Deputies say that a Chrysler passenger car was traveling southbound on Silver Street when it went off the west side of the roadway, striking several trees.
The driver, a 19-year-old Sturgis man, suffered only minor injuries. The passenger, a 20-year-old man also from Sturgis, sustained serious injuries.
Although seatbelts were worn, and drugs and alcohol didn’t appear to be factors in the crash, police cited the driver for driving without due care.
