KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Western Michigan University hockey team has earned a No. 1 seed in the 2022 NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament and will play Northeastern in Worcester, MA in the NCAA Regional Semifinal Friday at 12:00 p.m. .
The regional takes place at the DCU Center, home of the AHL’s Worcester Railers. The winner will take on the winner of the semifinal featuring Minnesota and defending National Champions, Massachusetts Sunday at 4:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.
This will be the sixth meeting all-time against NU and the first since 2013 when the teams clashed in Notre Dame’s Shillelagh Tournament, resulting in a 1-1 tie. The Huskies lead the all-time series at 3-1-1. Northeastern finished the regular season with a 25-12-1 record, winning the Hockey East regular season title.
The matchup will feature the two top goal scorers in the nation in WMU’s Ethen Frank (26) and NU’s Aidan McDonough (24).
