VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Bangor-area man has been found guilty of repeatedly attacking his girlfriend in 2021 over the course of two weeks.
46-year-old Trevor Double was convicted on Friday, March 4, in Van Buren County Court of torture, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
However, Double was found not guilty of a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.
He was charged in May of 2021 after his girlfriend, a 24-year-old Battle Creek woman, told investigators that he assaulted her.
The victim said that she had been living with Double for about a week when the abuse began with him accusing her of cheating, which led to the abuse that escalated over the next week. Even after being attacked with a hatchet, she said she was afraid to report the abuse because of threats to her son made by Double.
Her injuries were then severe enough for Double to take her to the hospital.
His sentencing is scheduled for April 27th.
