KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office has identified two suspects who were arrested on Monday, March 7, on numerous felony charges.
36-year-old Joshua Scott Knipfel and 36-year-old Aaron James ONeil, both of Kalamazoo, were seen by a judge on a total of five felony complaints and three misdemeanor complaints brought against them.
The Kalamazoo County Prosecutors Office is also authorizing two new felony charges of fleeing and eluding police and possession of weapons and ammunition by a felon.
Both Knipfel and ONeil were arrested after trying to flee deputies who were attempting to get them to pull over in their vehicle in Cooper Township.
Beforehand, deputies had responded to a domestic violence report at a residence where it was discovered that one of the suspects was wanted on nine active warrants, five which were felony cases, and three, assaultive in nature.
Deputies then observed the suspect vehicle and tried to get it to stop at Mount Olivet and East G Avenue in Cooper Township at around 3:30 p.m. During the chase, the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a light pole at a business, and then attempted to flee on foot.
The driver was apprehended and lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail on six new felony charges plus nine current bench warrants.
The second suspect, who was the passenger, was also arrested for multiple warrants as well as three new felony charges.
The case now on it’s way to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
