KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Holding signs that said “Stand With Ukraine” and “Stop Insane Dictator,” dozens of community members marched throughout downtown Kalamazoo Wednesday evening to show their support for the people of Ukraine, as the country remains under attack by Russia.
The rally and march began at the Kalamazoo State Theatre on Burdick Street and went for several blocks. The march included Kalamazoo County residents who were born in Ukraine and still have relatives living there.
The Kalamazoo City Hall will remain lit with blue and yellow lights, the colors of the Ukrainian flag, for the remainder of the week. Gun Lake Casino is also lighting its building in blue and yellow lights, and a number of Kalamazoo area businesses have announced fundraisers to provide financial support for organizations helping the Ukrainians.
A rally will be held from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. today at Ah-Nab-Awen park in downtown Grand Rapids to support the people of Ukraine. The event is being organized by St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which has seen people leaving flowers at the church over the past week.
People are encouraged to dress in the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag.
