KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has changing its mask guidance, dropping its school masking recommendation and recommending universal masking only inside high-risk congregate places as COVID-19 infection rates continue to drop, the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department has followed suit
Following the state’s announcement, the local department updated its mask guidance to reflect the state’s.
In a news release Wednesday, Dr. William Nettleton, medical director of Kalamazoo County, said, “When the evidence or situation changes, public health recommendations change as well. An example (Wednesday) is with respect to masking recommendations at this stage of the COVID-19 pandemic based on individual or congregate setting risk for COVID-19 spread or severe disease. Continued monitoring, including for new COVID-19 variants, will be important to inform readiness and additional response if needed.”
