LANSING, MI — Mid-Michigan is feeling the effects of the protest at the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Canada. General Motors is now cancelling more shifts at its Delta Township plant due to the part shortage issues caused by the bridge closure.
The automaker said Thursday the second shift today and the first shift scheduled for Friday Feb. 11 have been cancelled. The production facility employs more than 2,000 blue-collar workers. GM also operates the Lansing Grand River Assembley plant just south of downtown Lansing. The company has not said if the part shortages are effecting that plant.
Canadian truck drivers are causing gridlock by blocking the flow of traffic and freight across the Ambassador Bridge in protest over that country’s COVID vaccine mandate.
