KALAMAZOO MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Wings led Ft Wayne through the first period, and hung on to edge the Komets 5-4 Wednesday night at Wings Event Center.
The teams exchanged short-handed goals in the first stanza, before Kalamazoo’s Cody Corbett put the home team in front with under two minutes left in the period.
Ft Wayne trailed 4-2 early in the second period after Greg Maudlin lit the red light for the K Wings, but then pulled even at the second intermission as Matt Alvaro tallied two goals for the Komets.
In the third, the Komets’ Anthony Petruzzelli put his team ahead for the second time in the game with 13:55 left.
Kalamazoo countered with a goal from Greg Betzold, and then got the game winner with less than a minute left, as Logan Lambdin beat Ft Wayne goalie Liam Hughes.
K Wings goalie Trevor Gorsuch stopped 31 Komet shots for the win.
