LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan has broken its record for the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19.
There were 4,581 people hospitalized yesterday, breaking the December 13 record of 4,518. The highest amount during the winter 2020 surge was 3,884 on December 1, 2020.
The Michigan Health and Hospital Association says 88-percent of those hospitalized are unvaccinated and 85-percent of deaths are of people who have not had the shots.
The state has added 44,524 new cases of COVID-19 for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The Department of Health and Human Services says the daily average was around 14,481 and 56 people died from the virus.
There have been 27,878 Michiganders who have lost their lives to COVID-19 since March 2020 and the state has had a total of 1,681,135 cases.
