KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – UPDATE – A man has pleaded guilty to charges from a boating incident in 2020 that claimed a life on Gull Lake.
That update comes from a report by Wood TV Monday.
Previously, the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office had authorized charges against 39-year-old Tyler Boyd in the summer of 2020.
Just after 2 p.m. on July 5, police were called to West Gull Lake Drive on a report of a swimmer who had been hit by a boat.
The victim, 18-year-old Jack William Mitchell, died from his injuries following the incident.
Boyd, who was driving the boat, was charged with operating a boat under the influence of alcohol causing death.
According to the update, Boyd entered a guilty plea on Monday. Jury selection had been scheduled to start, but will no longer take place.
As a result of his plea, other charges were dropped.
He will receive his sentence on March 14, according to the report.
