DOWAGIAC, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Dowagiac Police Department is currently investigating a robbery that involved a shooting injury.
Just after midnight on Tuesday morning, police were called to the 300 block of Main Street.
Officers were told that a male victim had suffered a gunshot wound and was on the sidewalk.
The victim, a 37-year-old Dowagiac man, said that he had been talking with an acquaintance over social media about meeting up in the area.
When they met up, the man said the acquaintance attempted to rob the victim and struggle ensued, during which he suffered a gunshot wound.
The shooter fled the area in a vehicle.
The victim was treated at the scene and transported to South Bend Memorial hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The injury sustained is said to be non-life threatening.
Police have developed a person of interest and continue to investigate the case.
