SOUTH HAVEN MI (WKZO AM/FM) – South Haven city council members have approved a measure that will empower city officials to close its beaches and the pier during hazardous weather conditions.
Violating the new ordinance will be a civil offense with a $1000 fine attached.
The city will most likely install a gate that will be closed when conditions are adverse, the cost of which will be approximately $20,000.
The ordinance comes out of a recommendation from a safety committee formed in 2020 to look at ways to keep the beach/pier area safer.
