BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Fire officials say a fire at 14 1/2 Yuba Street Wednesday morning was caused by residents who tried to heat their second floor apartment with the oven.
When the first firefighters arrived just before 9:00 a.m., they were told by tenants the fire was out.
A further investigation found a working fire in the kitchen. It turns out a pan of grease caught fire and the flames had moved to the kitchen wall.
It just took a few minutes for the fire to be put out. No injuries were reported.
The Fire Marshal determined the fire was unintentional. Residents are reminded to never use your oven to heat your home as it could start a fire or cause death.
