BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Battle Creek Police have released the name of the man who they believe was struck by a passing train on Christmas night.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the victim was identified as 34-year-old Jacob W. Stiemsma.
His body was found near the railroad tracks at Dickman and South Avenues.
Police say they responded to a call at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon from a concerned citizen who said there was a man not moving near the tracks.
When officers arrived, they confirmed that Stiemsma was deceased with extensive injuries.
Investigators think Stiemsma was struck by a train sometime after 8:00 p.m. on Christmas night. Results from an autopsy were not available on Wednesday.
