CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a father and his son in Cass County Friday, December 17.
It happened around 8:15 p.m. on M-60 near Pine Lake Street in Howard Township.
Authorities say the driver of a 2006 Ford passenger car was traveling westbound on M-60 at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2007 Ford Edge SUV.
The driver and passenger of the 2006 Ford were pronounced dead at the scene. They are identified as 30-year-old Phillip Parker along with his 5-year-old son, both of Centreville.
It is unknown if the driver was wearing a seatbelt, however, the passenger was properly buckled. It is also unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
The driver of the Ford SUV is identified as a 39-year-old South Bend man and his passenger, a 39-year-old Niles man. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. Both were wearing seatbelts.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Cass County Sheriff deputies, Howard Township Fire personnel and Southwest Michigan Community Ambulance.
This crash remains under investigation pending toxicology results and prosecutor’s review.
